Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
